Created on 8/21/2024

With the art form of digitizing patterns woven on brocade, the Ethnicity Vietnam project is carried out by young people who are passionate about traditional ethnic culture and will bring the typical beauty of ethnic cultures get closer to the community.

The Ethnicity Vietnam project originated in 2018 and was selected as one of 10 projects in ASEAN that were directly presented to former US President Barack Obama. In 2019, Ethnicity Vietnam was nominated by the ASEAN Foundation and became an official member of the Social Innovation Warehouse. The project was also presented at the UNESCO International Youth Forum in China and introduced at the 43rd World Heritage Committee Session in Baku, Azerbaijan. From 2018 - 2022, Ethnicity Vietnam will build 4 libraries to digitize patterns of 13 ethnic groups. Thanks to that, these patterns can approach contemporary life more easily in many different forms and the origin and meaning of that pattern can be traced. By 2022, there will be 200 preserved patterns, 50 developed patterns, 50 pattern applications, and 30 archived illustrations of national life. Along with the conservation mission, Ethnicity Vietnam also focuses on developing ethnic minority youth through many exchange and training programs to equip the young generation with the necessary tools so that the young generation can gradually become good people. lead and develop the community, especially preserving and preserving cultural beauty.

Vietnamese culture is diverse thanks to the synthesis of the cultures of 54 ethnic groups. However, only the culture of the Vietnamese ethnic group (Kinh people) has received the most popularity and attention. For that reason, the Ethnicity Vietnam project was born in 2018 to preserve and bring brocade weaving patterns - the typical beauty of ethnic minorities closer to everyone in the form of digital art. transform patterns.

By applying graphic software (mainly Adobe Illustrator), Ethnicity Vietnam has digitized brocade patterns according to each stitch and thread to ensure the most accurate and effective library storage. . At the same time, the project also continues to develop patterns with contemporary elements but still retain the identity of each nation.

The name "Ethnicity" itself comes from two elements - Ethnic is ethnicity and City is urban. This also expresses the main aspiration of the project to bring the beauty of national culture, especially brocade patterns, closer to the urban area and to young people. Brocades may age, images and patterns may fade over the years, but stored images and drawing files are a form of preservation as well as dissemination and application in contemporary life. easier.

In particular, the series of projects "Stories of people living forever" is shown through short films that not only talk about the weaving profession but also show the beauty of the workers through their work, their emotions as well as express the current situation. Tradition gradually disappears. Films also help store content images to create documents for cultural research.

Ethnicity Vietnam's current goal is to create a set of patterns from 53 ethnic groups in 63 provinces and cities of Vietnam and build a series of story films about the value of traditional brocades and the sentiments of these people. Weavers love their profession and love the local culture in today's life.
